Knives are a basic and important element in any serious kitchen. Chefs and cooks all possess varying degrees of knife skills. Chefs and other formally educated culinary types will have learned a lot of knife skills in culinary school and in the work place.

Kitchen knives are manufactured with them in mind – catering to the people who use knives for a living. Anyone with enough money or resources can purchase superior sets or individual blades. There are many different types of blades that each performs different jobs in the kitchen.

A chef knife is a standard and often a centerpiece of any chef’s collection of knives. If you can only afford one high quality, this is the best. Try out chef knives at kitchen stores to find out which weight or construction fits your own style.
